Previous days are unrecorded. So it goes.
Did an abstract underpainting, and then played around with pastels on top of it.
I feel really frustrated about the figure.
Now that I’m mostly over this cold, I feel comfortable working with pastels again. (Didn’t want to risk aggravating a nasty cough with pastel dust.)
Just played around with colors, mostly. Also made a very small adjustment to the left arm.
Continuing on! The changes feel almost imperceptible, but I spent a fair amount of time on this today. Most of my efforts were concentrated in a tiny area — I was working on the figure.
Started doing the scariest part, i.e. the figure.
Adjusted the figure, started to lay in more color, and also began to rough in the foreground trees. It’s starting to feel like a painting now.
Added some more darks, started to rough in the figure.
It’s pretty rough.
Did a thumbnail sketch…
And then started the underpainting on velour board. Note to self: remember to wear the face mask when using velour board! It generates extremely fine pastel dust.
Finished, finally? Maybe?
I should probably just sign it and put it away and start something new. There is supposed to be snow tomorrow, so I shall venture forth and obtain inspiration!
Still not quite finished, but now it’s REALLY close. I need to let it sit for a bit and come back to it in a day or two to make final adjustments.
Not quite finished…but it’s getting very close.
Did some more work on this today. Sadly it doesn’t seem likely that I’ll finish it this week, but I am going to try to finish it in the next two days — I really want to get it done before the end of the month.
Slowly making progress.
Made some more progress on this today, but was distracted by doing random calligraphy background stuff.
Continued adding some pastel layers (cars are hard), but most of my time today was devoted to the little Italic piece I did.
