[Sketch] Day 0274 – Tree in the Park

Walked over to a little local park today and sketched this on location. Only one person spoke to me; he was walking a dog (in a park that doesn’t allow dogs) and said: “Looks like you’re having a good time.” The forced chuckle after that statement made it a somewhat weird, awkward moment, but I just smiled and said, “I hope you’re having a good day too.”

One elderly gentleman was doing laps, walking around the perimeter of the park. Every time he passed me, I’d hear a few seconds of the polka music he was listening to.

[Painting] Day 0265 – Dense Rhododendrons (Day One)

Haven’t had much energy for art lately — packing and keeping the apartment in a constant state of readiness for showings takes up way too much time. But I finally got fed up with that and broke out the pastels. This will probably be the last pastel painting I ever do at this apartment.

I started with a loose sketch on Ampersand Pastelbord, and then started roughing in the darks with neutral tones. It’s actually considerably darker than the picture shows — the bright light attached to my easel makes the top appear lighter than it actually is. Which is problematic, really. I probably ought to get a better lighting setup at some point after we move.
